In fact, the location of Van der Veen's is a mere feet from the Auberge Ravoux, where van Gogh spent the last two months of his life, and where he ultimately laid to die. When he fell in love with his recently widowed cousin, Kate, she was repulsed and fled to her home in Amsterdam. She became his companion, mistress and model.
