Sports was added back to the evening newscasts, and a new weekly sports program was created, Delmarva Sports Insider , which is devoted primarily to hyper-local sports reporting for the Delmarva Peninsula. WMDT was the first station in the area to begin using virtual news sets, a broad network of weather cameras in its newscasts and on its website, and a cellular bonded live news truck.
With the advent of a second TV station WGDV-Salisbury we were able to provide the first Spanish language station in the market, and more classic television networks than any other local media outlet, which provides more choices for our viewers. Our news programming regularly receives awards from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association and has also received the highly coveted Service to Children Television award from the National Association of Broadcasters.

The station has lived in the shadow of WBOC Channel 16 in Salisbury, which has a larger staff and some big-market features, such as a news helicopter. The station is part of the Delmarva holdings of the Draper family. However, WMDT was able to remain a competitor, since it did not see multiple ownership changes and the associated debt — problems that have affected other media outlets in recent years.
The analog UHF channel 47 signal was unavailable for many weeks although its digital signal, cable channel, and cable-only WB station were unaffected.
The new combined network would be called The CW. The station began to be known on-air as "Delmarva CW 3". During the annual Delaware State Fair, the 6 p. WMDT has twice filed a petition seeking a waiver of the FCCs network non-duplication and syndicated program exclusivity rules. The petitions were filed by Comcast, the cable provider in the area that WMDT is located in within a mile 56 km radius of its studios.
For many years, the station was the only one in the area to broadcast Jeopardy! Both shows have since moved to WRDE.
