Which pride and prejudice is better

The illustrations are hilarious! Hugh Thomson definitely had a sense of humor. The first two for the cover art, the last two for the extra content… must balance vanity with the improvement of my mind by extensive reading! I must add that I bought the Jane Austen app for my iPhone. I have to admit, I really do like the cover of the penguin deluxe edition.

However my favorite edition is the new penguin classics one with the yellow cover. While the yellow does tend to look a little garish, the fabric lining the novel is reminiscent of an older time. Her commentary on the ins and outs of the postal service and correspondence conventions of the period is interesting, and having the letters, especially some of the key letters, is a lot of fun.

Sorry, your blog cannot share posts by email. If you love British period dramas and British mysteries, this adaptation is a must-watch. Set six years after the Pride and Prejudice story, Wickham played perfectly by Matthew Goode becomes the main suspect in a murder. Faithful to the novel, this modern adaptation fittingly moves the story to India with Bollywood dance numbers and an attractive American Mr. As the East meets the West, cultures clash, but a romance blooms at the same time.

As a whole, Bride and Prejudice is just so much fun to watch. I love the over-the-top romantic goodies and beautiful costumes. So, if you enjoy dreamy music videos and unabashedly sweet love stories, this one is for you. David Rintoul as Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Garvie as Elizabeth Bennet shine in the lead roles and have fantastic chemistry. While Rintoul is less romantic than Firth or Macfadyen and harsher, he gives a solid performance and a sensible interpretation some may prefer depending on how you read the book.

However, be warned, this feels more like watching a play at times than a movie. Based loosely on Pride and Prejudice , Bridget Jones, a single British woman in her early thirties, tries to improve her life while also keeping a diary. In the beginning, Bridget overhears Mark Darcy insult her, prejudicing her against him. But he falls in love with her just the way she is — faults and all.

This hilarious romantic comedy brings Colin Firth back to play Mr. Darcy — further cementing him as the definitive Mr. Darcy of this generation. The movie had two sequels, ultimately giving Bridget and Mark Darcy the happy ending they deserved. Silver Petticoat Award: Funniest Adaptation.

Yes, the costumes are historically inaccurate, and the script takes vast liberties. Still, Laurence Olivier gave a trailblazing performance of Mr. Darcy, bringing out the broody, romantic qualities of the character onscreen. His performance went on to influence all Mr. And thus, we come to the ongoing debate.

Which Pride and Prejudice is better? The adaptation? Or the adaptation? Some fans feel passionately one way or the other. I, on the other hand, love both adaptations equally. While the adaptation with Knightley and Macfadyen is the most visually artistic, the version arguably has the best screenplay. They balance each other out, and I watch both versions depending on my mood.

The adaptation truly set the bar for what makes a fantastic period drama and a great book adaptation. From the synergistic chemistry between Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle to iconic scenes such as Darcy taking a swim, this one has everything a Jane Austen fan could ever want.

Darcy named Mr. Nobley of her own. On the other hand, becoming Jane tells a fictionalized account of a young Jane Austen who falls in love with the Irish Tom Lefroy. While more guesswork than reality, the romantic drama depicts their love story as the inspiration for Pride and Prejudice.

Both movies, while wildly different, are excellent movies about Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice and worth watching. Unfortunately, many older ones have been lost from the TV version to the miniseries and the version.

Other copies are harder to come by. That said, you can watch a few clips of the production on YouTube. Well, that covers the best available Pride and Prejudice adaptations. More posts by this author. He's not quite as good as Firth, but still pretty good. Jul 14, PM. Definitely the BBC series-one of the best ever made.

Brideshead Revisited is another great one. Firth cannot be equaled as Darcy and I've seen a lot of Darcies Even Olivier can't compare All of the casting and acting are perfect-the Bennett sisters and parents, Mr.

Collins, Bingley, his pompous sister etc. Erik wrote: "The movie was horrible, if you're looking for something faithful to the book. It may even be one of the best translations of any book to film eve Some books just can't be done justice without the time that a miniseries allows -- loved the BBC miniseries and wish someone would consider doing Harry Potter in that format!

I think the series wins hands down not just due to Colin Firth yum. Whenever I read this book now I hear the actors from the series in my head, they fit perfectly. Why did they bother producing that silly film with a cast that could never beat dear Colin Firth! Colin Firth. I would certainly have to agree with most posters here; the BBC one is certainly better.

I'm not a fan of Kiera Knightley, and because the BBC series is so much longer, they were able to get into the character development more, which is the best part about the book. And of course Colin Firth is yummy. One is a series and the other a movie. I enjoyed both very much. Jul 16, AM. BBC is sooo much better. Keira Knightley did a very poor job playing Elizabeth. She acted more like what I would think Kitty or Lydia would be like. Plus, Colin Firth was a much better Mr.

Colin Firth IS Mr. End of story. Besides, you actually pull out the book and read along with the dialog in the BBC series. Truly, I did this while getting quotes for a term paper. The film quality does show its age, unfortunately, but I still love it to pieces.

Jul 16, PM. You must be joking. I love both sooooo much, I can't choose. Darcy, and I love the cast in the better. I really, really don't like Keira Knightley as Elizabeth. If only she wasn't in it. Its the BBC series - not just for the Colin Firth- gratuitous lake scene although who wouldn't enjoy that!! Elizabeth Bennett has character, intelligence and knows it is these reasons that make her her father's favourite - not some waif like Knightley pouting her way through most of the scenes.

Also the supporting actors in the BBC series are much truer - Alison Steadman is perfect as hysterical Mrs Bennett and Julia Sawalha is brilliantly stupid as Lydia swept off her feet by the gorgeous but deadly Adrian Lukis.

Its the BBC all the way i'm afraid. What a question I love both these movies so much that I don't know if I can choose. I believe both bring something to the table. I guess I would go with It is longer and therefore shows more of the book. Plus, Colin Firth is the perfect Mr.

BBC series. Stayed true to the book. I liked the film way better than the bbc series. I think Elizabeth in the movie is way more likable and charming.

Also the film was just beautifully directed. I think it really combined the classic characters and story line in the novel Pride and Prejudice but also modernized the characters a bit to be more relatable to our times while still holding its place as a period piece.

Jul 17, AM. I preferred the BBC series, but parts of the film were extremely well handled. Matthew who?! Colin Firth, all the way! As a whole, I'd say I prefer the series. He wasn't as true to the book character, but he was adorable in an abused puppy kind of way.
